Q: What genders are welcome at this event?
A: ALL men, women, and non-gender conforming individuals are welcome at Women in Jazz Day! There are plenty of non-gender specific clinics to be had.
Not to mention: the ideas around gender disparity in jazz is an issue that we all should be addressing.
Q: Are meals provided?
A: No. There will be on site concessions and pizza that support our music education clubs. There is also on-campus food (at the SURC building) or fast food options that are nearby.
Q: I'm a music educator. Can I get clock hours for this event?
A: Yes! WMEA has approved our event for up to 7.5 clock hours!
Q: Where do I park?
A: There is plenty of parking available at the McIntyre Music Building. Weekend parking is free of charge.
Q: What are the jam sessions like?
A: We will have three jam sessions that are only for female and non-binary participants (the only part of the event like this). There will be a signup sheet run by a CWU volunteer, so you'll only play on what you sign up for!
-The beginner jam will have real books provided as well as a director to help things move along. This is a great jam if you've hardly/never been to a jam before and need someone to help you!
-The intermediate jam will not have real books provided, but you are welcome to bring your own! It will not have a director, and will focus on simple tunes such as a blues, Song for my Father, Doxy, or other similar tunes.
-The advanced jam is the same as the intermediate jam, but if you want to play more advanced tunes, this is the jam for you!
